08 Aug The 2nd Yili Breast Milk Research Symposium successfully held in Hohhot
On August 8, 2020, the 2nd Yili breast milk research symposium was held in Hohhot, which gathered many domestic experts in the field of maternal and infant nutrition. Wang Zhixu, chairman of women and children nutrition branch of Chinese Nutrition Society and professor of School of Public Health, Nanjing Medical University, Zeng Guo, vice chairman of women and children nutrition branch of Chinese Nutrition Society and professor of School of Public Health and West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University, Zhang Yumei, professor of School of Public Health, Peking University, Zhou Peng, professor of School of Food Science and Technology, Jiangnan University, Dr. Zhao Ai, doctoral supervisor of School of Public Health, Tsinghua University, and Dr. Feng Gang of Yili Breast Milk Research Institute delivered their keynote speeches on early life nutrition, breast milk research progress and the significance of breast milk nutritional elements on infant health. Professor Zhang Silai, who has been committed to popularizing maternal and infant health knowledge for a long time, also attended the symposium.
The participants discussed and exchanged the cutting-edge technologies and achievements of breast milk research with the representatives of Yili Maternal and Infant Research Institute, Dr. Yun Zhanyou, Yili Group President Assistant and Dr. Liu Biao, senior technical R&D director of Yili Milk Powder Service Division.
After the speeches of Dr. Yun Zhanyou of Yili Group and Wang Zhixu, president of the symposium, professor Zeng Guo first introduced the importance of early life nutrition and China’s goals and plans to improve early life nutrition. Early life nutrition determines the short-term and long-term health of mothers and children. Paying attention to nutrition in the early 1,000 days of life can reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes and promote maternal and infant health, which is crucial to improve the health level of the whole country.
Professor Zhang Yumei explained the progress of breast milk research in China. Professors Wang Zhixu and Zhou Peng explained the structured lipid and the two most important proteins (α-whey protein and β-casein) in breast milk. Dr. Zhao Ai reported in detail the research on the clinical feeding effect of the infant formula PRO-KIDO I-PROTECH. The study evaluated the feeding effect of PRO-KIDO I-PROTECH, breast feeding and ordinary formula milk and the results showed that the nutritional effect of PRO-KIDO I-PROTECH formulation were in many regards similar to that of breast milk.
Since 2003, Yili has been committed to China’s breast milk research, in order to build China’s breast milk research system from scratch and truly understand Chinese breast milk. After 18 years of exploration and accumulation, Yili has established the first database of breast milk research in China and built a physical milk library. Through the cooperation with Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Wageningen University and other academic institutions, Yili has carried out comprehensive research on 155 indexes and over 1,700 components of Chinese breast milk, and has also explored the frontier fields of oligosaccharides, MFGM and proteomics in breast milk. Yili tries to simulate the beneficial nutritional aspects of breast milk, with the hope of providing the best early nutrition for Chinese infants.
